Artist Statement Carmen Hickson

I create what I think are moments in time.  Although the materials used to construct my work may appear worn out and lifeless, they still hold a purpose.  I am fascinated by the beauty of our environment and try to see past the intended purpose of an object.  My work represents the times we are living in and serves as a reminder to look closer when viewing our world and capture each moment in memory as a testament to our existence. Each piece is unique in that it could never be duplicated.  All the found objects in my metal assemblage pieces have a history of their own and find new purpose once combined.
