Artist Statement Carmen Hickson

Drawing on the history of mans' profound inventiveness and the magnitude of creative possibility my work seeks to find a visual narrative in what was once discarded.

By using objects and materials that have been deemed useless and reorganizing them to assume a new form, I am pronouncing to all the value of our imaginations and the importance of our material history.

We create, consume, and discard at such an extreme pace. Finding the hidden value and beauty of discarded objects and creating a narrative from which to learn, is the ultimate expression of my work.
